IHA is near to finalising their
long awaited Level III Coaching Accreditation & Mentorship
Seminar scheduled for the 15th - 21st January 2007 at Myuna
Bay Sport & Recreation Centre, NSW designed to further
the development of active Level I coaches from IHA's National,
Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) and Member State Teams.
In excess of 40 invitations have been sent to prospective
coaches across Australia.
The IIHF are providing three personnel for instruction and
facilitation. Darryl Eason, Sport Program Development Manager,
and who has been a Level III instructor for the IIHF for
the past four years, will be leading the instruction team.
Darryl will be assisted by Jim
Brithen, a professional Swedish coach and IIHF Mentor coach
and instructor. Jim has many years of experience coaching
Swedish teams at the highest level, including holding the
position as National Head Coach and Development Director
of the Danish National Team for five years. Jim was also
awarded "Coach of the Year" in Sweden after leading
MODO-hockey to a Silver medal in the Swedish Championships
in 2002.
Peter Anderson, IIHF Level III Instructor from New Zealand
and additional specialist instructors complete the instruction
team.
Through the assistance of the Australian Olympic Council
(AOC) and the IIHF, IHA is honoured to be recognised and
supported by both these institutions in providing the opportunity
to present the program to IHA's Accredited Level I Coaches.
This opportunity and the support of all IHA's Member State
Associations ensures the participating coaches will have
the best of instruction and an enjoyable learning experience.
Following the five day Coaching Accreditation
Seminar, the IHA Coaching Council will join the group to
launch the IHA's Coach Mentorship Program. The program is
designed to mentor coaches on the finer aspects of the game
both at a national and state level to further their coaching
development. IHA Coach Mentor Ambassador, Steve McKenna,
National Senior Team Head Coach, will be joining the team
on his return to Australia in March 2007.
IHA wishes to thank the staff of Myuna Bay
Sport & Recreation Centre for their dedication and assistance
with planning the accommodation, meals and instruction venue.
